The historic Baptist Confession of Faith (1689), continues to act as a guideline in faith and practice today for many Baptist Churches and Christian believers who practise believers Baptism.

The famous Baptist Pastor, preacher and writer Charles Haddon Spurgeon, commended the 1689 Confession to his own congregation in these words: "It is not issued as an authoritive rule, or code of faith, whereby you are to be fettered, but as an assistant to you in controversy, a confirmation in faith, and a means of edification in righteousness."

It is a matter of interest to note that the Church led by C H Spurgeon in the 19th century, became known as the "Metropolitan Tabernacle" and continues to this day as a vibrant Christian Church in the heart of London under Dr Peter Masters.
